In the early 1980s, Nintendo was sued by Universal Studios, which claimed Donkey Kong infringed on King Kong.
Nintendoās lawyer, John Kirby, won the case by proving Universal had previously argued King Kong was public domain - protecting Nintendo at a critical moment.
Years later, Nintendo honored him by naming a new character: Kirby.
